Your analysis is of course correct. The problem is where do we go from here?

Years ago the historian Edmund Morgan wrote American Slavery, American Freedom. It is a history of Colonial Virginia and explores the questions that you raise.

Perhaps Edmund Burke put it best, “Why are the people who yelp loudest for freedom the drivers of Negro slaves?”

The counter narrative has always been there too.

My question is how we teach this history going forward.
