A Constitutional Amendment is next to impossible, especially one that powerful groups believe would weaken their power. It would require a new Constitutional Convention. When Washington warned against political parties and sectionalism, he was really arguing against the Democratic Republicans. He saw himself as the legitimate government. The way we choose Presidents almost guarantees two parties. The whole structure would need to be changed.
Maybe if things get a lot more broken, I am not optimistic about the potential outcome of a convention if it started now.
