Thank you so much for writing this. I gave a talk in 2017 around the theme of hope after hope fails.

Within the apocalyptic tradition in Jewish and Christian literature there is a sense of failure and resignation. All human reform efforts turn to dust. As Peter Gabriel put it in Signal to Noise, “You know the way that things go, when what you fight for starts to fall.”

Somehow the failure and despair can crack our certainties and let the light back in.

In some strange way, I think this is what the message of resurrection is all about. The problem is that the lies and fantasies of individual or national beliefs have to be shattered first.

I hope you will be able to see signs of new birth and hope in the accelerating chaos of the present.
