Thank you for writing this. You have come up with a very plausible, but perhaps unprovable story line. I saw him in concert outside of Boston with Brennan Manning. What most struck me was when he mused aloud that Air Force One might crash, kill the Clintons and therefore prevent abortions.

After intermission he apologized, although not clearly.

Whatever his sexuality, Rich modeled a life of honest searching. He wrestled with inner demons, depression, fundamentalism, and the Gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ.

As he sang in The Love of God, “There’s a wideness in God’s mercy, I cannot find in my own.”

That is a verse worth reflecting on in this summer of 2020.
