One final thought, the Bill of Rights is of course later. Consider Thoreau's speech Slavery in Massachusetts in Framingham, Mass on the Fourth. He followed Garrison burning the Constitution in 1854.

Also, I think it would be interesting to compare with Frederick Douglass's What to the Slave is the fourth of July. He gave the speech on July Fifth in Rochester, NY, the year was 1852.
