I think you may be taking Jesus a bit out of context here. If you consider Matthew 10:34-36 Jesus describes coming as a divider, not a uniter. The apostle John does tend to paint Jesus in the most Manichean terms. It is also worth noting that Jesus' approach to his enemies got him killed by them.
