I think the larger problem is that the quest for the original meaning of the Constitution is ultimately a dead end. It is often the same thing with people trying to determine the original meaning of Scripture. I like to tell my students that the world of George Washington to the world of Julius Caesar than the world we live in today. We can't fully enter into the culture from 250 years ago, let alone 2,000. Too many words change in meaning. The article was from a paper I wrote for a grad class. I don't think any of them were live links, except perhaps for some items from the Adams Family papers.
