Hi Kyle,

I am curious whether you have read any of the Jewish, Psychological, Mythical, or Feminist readings of Adam and Eve. Many read the story as the development of psychological maturity of humanity. In order for humanity to advance there has to be a rejection of earlier ways of doing things. So much of the Bible from Abraham, to Moses, to Jesus, to Peter and Paul involve the rejection of inherited traditions to pursue new ways of living and following God.

I have heard others describe the story as a mythical rewriting of the history of Israel. Some describe leaving the "oceanic oneness" of being connected to parents for the necessary growth towards individuation.

I know these interpretations do not fit the Conservative Protestant understanding of the fall. At the same time much of the richness of scripture is how it can be understood from so many different perspectives.

Of course, maybe I have just eaten the apple myself.

Best,

Tim
