For what it is worth most of my sources are from 30+ years of teaching and studying US Economic history. I always consider multiple perspectives on these events. Each of the articles you cite above are from Conservative periodicals. I will agree that Cuomo is positioning himself to run for president in 2024. I am actually a much bigger fan of Charlie Baker’s response. He is quietly doing an outstanding job. https://www.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#cases is the “official government list.” Vermont also has a Repulican governor and here is their map with county by county data. https://accd.vermont.gov/covid-19/restart/cross-state-travel. If you want an outstanding book on the Depression years with a “fair and balanced” take on the failures and successes of the New Deal, I would recommend “Freedom from Fear: The United States in Depression and War” by David Kennedy. He is fair minded, defends Hoover a lot, and to my mind persuasively argues that the real legacy of the New Deal is seen in the years 1945–1968 as the new banking and stock market rules make possible the tremendous growth of the suburbs.
