Actually the biggest concern for FDR was getting the Supreme Court to approve his initiatives. FDR was far more pragmatic and centrist than most people realize. He stopped stimulus spending too soon, much like Obama.
In comparing FDR and Biden I was saying that their campaigns were vague. I am also comparing the historical situation they were in. It is interesting that from election day 1932 until FDR was sworn in during March, his team worked closely with Hoover’s on recovery efforts. As some describe it they kept working through the transition and just changed who chaired the meetings.
Democrats intentionally blocked some good faith efforts by Hoover in order to maximize their success at the polls in 1932.
I think it is safe to say that FDR rose to the challenges of his presidency. Many people who knew him from earlier were amazed at how much he had changed.
You never know how someone is going to lead until they are actually in the job. I am not thrilled with his platform, but I am impressed by his resilience, determination, and compassion. He also passes the “Any Rational Adult” test.
